Modernizing Municipal AV: How Nijkerk Transformed Its Town Hall with Extron

The Municipality of Nijkerk, located in the Netherlands, needed more space for its town hall, which used to be in the center of the city. To accommodate the expansion, it overhauled a former Rabobank building and moved its Council Chambers to this new location. This move provided an opportunity to upgrade the outdated analog AV system to a modern, digital solution that could support contemporary communication needs. At minimum, the new system needed to support local content sharing, integration with platforms like Microsoft Teams®, and mandatory public streaming of council meetings.

CHALLENGES

The blend of existing and new technology presented unique challenges to the design and integration. Within the newly renovated space, traditional AV cabling was impractical, necessitating a flexible and scalable AV over IP solution. Additionally, the municipality required a system that was reliable, user-friendly, and capable of future expansion to accommodate evolving technological needs.

Extron worked with Wuestman long before the systems were installed. Through its System Commissioning service, Extron provided comprehensive system validation and support during the planning stage to ensure the network was configured properly. This helped reduce the installation and commissioning time. Post installation, Extron design engineers conducted detailed system analysis, testing, and verification to make certain everything was working exactly as it should be.

SOLUTIONS

To address the municipality's needs, Wuestman implemented Extron's NAV Series encoders and decoders, facilitating efficient distribution and switching of AV signals throughout the council chamber and committee rooms. The system was complemented by Extron's TouchLink® Pro touchpanels, providing an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) for easy operation. This setup enabled seamless local content sharing, integration with Microsoft Teams® for hybrid meetings, and compliance with public streaming obligations.

The Technology

To meet the Municipality of Nijkerk’s requirements for a flexible, high-performance AV system, Extron’s NAV Pro AV over IP Series played a pivotal role in the design and implementation. The system, built around NAV E 121, NAV E 101, and NAV E 501 encoders and NAV SD 101 and NAV SD 501 scaling decoders, ensures ultra-low latency transmission of high-quality video and audio over a standard IP network. This design eliminates the need for extensive AV cabling, making it ideal for the renovated town hall’s mix of old and new construction.

The NAVigator System Manager provides centralized control, allowing for seamless routing, monitoring, and configuration of AV signals across the council chambers and meeting spaces. Additionally, MediaPort 300 HDMI and Audio-to-USB scaling bridges enable smooth integration with conferencing platforms like Microsoft Teams®, to ensure effective hybrid meetings. Extron TouchLink touchpanels work in concert with an IP Link Pro control processor, allowing users to benefit from an intuitive interface for effortless system operation. By leveraging Extron’s scalable and future-ready technology, Nijkerk Town Hall now has a robust AV infrastructure that supports public streaming, collaboration, and evolving municipal communication needs.

The convenience and flexibility of having the (TouchLink Pro) touchpanel is very nice. The layout is very intuitive.

RESULT

The Municipality of Nijkerk's transition to a new town hall facilitated a significant upgrade in its AV capabilities. With Wuestman's expertise and Extron's advanced NAV Pro AV over IP technology, the municipality now benefits from a reliable, flexible, and future-proof AV system. The new setup not only meets current requirements for local content sharing and public streaming but also positions the municipality to adapt to future technological advancements.
