The Extron DTP2 R 212 and DTP2 R 212 SA are digital twisted pair receivers that work with Extron DTP®-enabled products to send HDMI, audio, as well as bidirectional control signals up to 330 feet (100 meters) over a shielded CATx cable. Both models include one DTP2 input, one HDMI input for a local video source, and one HDMI output. These receivers support video resolutions up to 4K/60 at 4:4:4 chroma sampling, and comply with HDCP 2.3. Audio de-embedding and Ethernet remote control facilitate integration in professional environments. Integrator-friendly features include EDID Minder®, auto-switching between inputs, and bidirectional RS‑232 and IR pass-through for remote AV device control. The DTP2 R 212 SA model also features a built‑in Class D stereo amplifier, delivering 15 watts per channel.

The DTP2 R 212 and DTP2 R 212 SA enable the reliable, long distance transmission of HDMI signals at up to 18 Gbps, HDR, Deep Color up to 12‑bit, CEC, and embedded HD lossless audio formats. A local HDMI input allows connection of an additional video source at the display, which is beneficial in BYOD applications where the display may need to support both a local collaboration appliance and remote sources. The standard version DTP2 R 212 can also provide power to a remote DTP2 transmitter over the shielded twisted pair cable, enabling both devices to share one power supply.

To enhance and simplify integration of devices and to help ensure optimal system performance, the DTP2 receiver features Extron EDID Minder, which automatically manages EDID by maintaining continuous EDID communication with each source, ensuring that the sources power up properly and reliably output content for display.

Unique Audio Features

Both DTP2 R 212 and DTP2 R 212 SA feature bass, treble, and volume controls. The stereo output is selectable for de-embedded or pass-through analog audio as a balanced or unbalanced signal on a captive screw connector. Analog audio signals are sent over the same shielded twisted pair cable as the video and control signals, eliminating the need for a separate cable run.

The DTP2 R 212 SA provides a built‑in Class D stereo amplifier that can drive surface mount or ceiling speakers. This offers a significant upgrade in sound quality over displays with built-in speakers, while simplifying integration. Volume is adjustable via SIS command or a remote volume controller such as the Extron VC 50, VCM 110, or VCM 200.

Control Versatility

The DTP2 R 212 provides other convenient, integrator-friendly features designed to help simplify installation. The front panel features input selection buttons, and six LEDs that indicate input and output signal status along with HDCP presence. Auto-switching allows for simple, intuitive operation in locations such as within a lectern or with the display device. When multiple inputs are active, the switching priority is configurable. The unit also provides internal Web pages to monitor unit status.

Both DTP2 R 212 models provide Ethernet to RS‑232 insertion to the DTP2 port as well as the RS‑232 port dedicated for display control. This enables system level control of devices attached to the remotely connected DTP2 transmitter as well a locally connected display.

Set up and Configuration

The DTP2 R 212 models can be configured using Extron's PCS - Product Configuration Software with a user-friendly GUI that is very easy to navigate. This software application allows for expedited setup and commissioning, real-time operation and monitoring, plus the ability to configure several units in the same session. The DTP2 receiver can be integrated with an Extron DTP CrossPoint® presentation matrix switcher, or other DTP-enabled products to support devices at remote locations.

The receiver is housed in a 1" (2.5 cm) high, three-quarter rack width metal enclosure. The low profile enclosure of the DTP2 R 212 and DTP2 R 212 SA allows for discreet placement.

Extron recommends Extron-certified XTP DTP 24 shielded twisted pair cable, shielded RJ-45 plugs, jacks, and couplers engineered for optimum signal transmission with Extron DTP Series products. The XTP DTP 24 cable is certified to 475 MHz and utilizes a SF/UTP design with four unshielded 24 AWG twisted pair conductors inside an overall braid and foil shield for superior performance and noise immunity.

Features

  • CEC - Consumer Electronics Control Capability — Standard, built-in CEC commands can be triggered to control displays or other AV devices connected to the HDMI or DTP2 outputs. The ability to control specific functions, such as power on/off, input selection, or volume level, is dependent on implementation by the device manufacturer.
  • Extron XTP DTP 24 shielded twisted pair cable is strongly recommended for optimal performance
  • Compatible with CATx shielded twisted pair cable — The DTP2 212 models fully support a maximum transmission distance of 330 feet (100 meters) for all compatible resolutions when used with CATx shielded twisted pair cable. Shielded twisted pair cabling with solid center conductor sizes of 24 AWG or better is recommended for optimal performance.
  • Remote power capability with DTP2 products — For simplified installation, the standard DTP2 R 212 without amplifier can be remotely powered by a DTP2 transmitter over the twisted pair connection. It can also be configured to provide power to the connected DTP2 transmitter.
  • Accepts additional analog stereo audio signals — The DTP2 R 212 models accept stereo analog audio from a DTP®-enabled product. This audio may be switched to the stereo captive screw output or the optional stereo amplifier output, independent of the video input selection.
  • Stereo audio embedding — Pass-through audio from the DTP input can be embedded onto the HDMI output
  • Bidirectional RS‑232 and IR pass-through for AV device control — Bidirectional RS‑232 control and IR signals can be transmitted alongside the video signal, allowing remote AV devices to be controlled without the need for additional cabling.
  • RS‑232 insertion from the Ethernet control port — Saves system resources and simplifies installation by enabling a control processor to access remote RS-232 devices over Ethernet.
  • Display control RS-232 port — Serial commands inserted from Ethernet can be routed to this port to control a connected display or other device.

  • Compatible with all DTP transmitters and DTP-enabled products — Enables mixing and matching with desktop and wallplate transmitters, as well as other DTP-enabled products to meet application requirements.
  • User-selectable HDCP authorization — Allows the unit to appear HDCP compliant or non‑HDCP compliant to the connected source, which is beneficial if the source automatically encrypts all content when connected to an HDCP-compliant device. Protected material is not passed in non‑HDCP mode.
  • Comprehensive EDID management — Use PCS software to access EDID Minder for setting video input EDID, capturing EDID from connected displays, or uploading custom EDID files. Proper EDID management ensures that sources and displays are easily integrated into a system resulting in optimized system operation. Freely downloadable EDID Manager 2.0 software is available for advanced EDID editing and creating custom EDID files.

  • HDCP authentication and signal presence confirmation — Provides real-time verification of HDCP status for each digital video input and output. This allows for simple, quick, and easy signal and HDCP verification through front panel LEDs, RS‑232, USB, or Ethernet, providing valuable feedback to a system operator or helpdesk support staff.
  • HDCP Visual Confirmation — When HDCP‑encrypted content is transmitted to a non‑HDCP compliant display, a full‑screen green signal is sent to the display for immediate visual confirmation that protected content cannot be viewed on that display.
  • HDMI to DVI Interface Format Correction — Automatically enables or disables embedded audio and InfoFrames, and sets the correct color space for proper connection to HDMI and DVI displays.
  • Automatic color bit depth management — Automatically adjusts color bit depth based on the display EDID, preventing color compatibility conflicts between source and displays.
