The Extron DSC 12G-HD A is a high-performance multi-format SDI to HDMI scaler. It converts 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and HD-SDI to HDMI, supporting SMPTE video resolutions from 720p through 4K/60. Selectable output rates up to 4K/60, along with custom output resolution capability, ensure compatibility with a wide range of displays. The scaler incorporates the Extron-exclusive Vector™ 4K scaling engine for critical-quality 4K applications. Audio from SDI or analog sources is embedded on the HDMI output and available on analog outputs. Additional features include an SDI input loop, motion-adaptive deinterlacing for 1080i, Deep Color processing, seamless upstream switching, and on-screen logo display for messaging and branding, facilitating integration in demanding professional environments.

Vector 4K Scaling

Built on our patented signal processing platforms, Vector™ 4K is the latest generation of Extron scaling engines. The scaler embodies a complete set of image processing algorithms that ensure uncompromising scaling performance with 30‑bit precision processing. This enables sharp, accurate scaling of high-definition signals up to 4K, as well as downscaling of 4K source signals for lower-resolution displays without losing critical image detail.

The DSC 12G-HD A offers a range of upstream switching effects. These include a freeze/fade transition that fades out a final frozen frame of the previous input source as the newly detected source fades in, a cut through black transition, and a fade through black transition. Selectable FILL and FOLLOW modes are available to set the desired video aspect ratio. FILL mode provides full screen output, while FOLLOW mode preserves the original signal’s aspect ratio.

Audio Flexibility

The DSC 12G‑HD A offers enhanced audio capabilities, including HDMI audio embedding, input gain and attenuation controls, and input audio muting. To suit the needs of the application, the scaler can embed analog audio signals or up to four pairs of AES audio channels from the SDI input onto the HDMI output. The DSC 12G‑HD A provides gain and attenuation adjustments for the analog stereo input, as well as the ability to mute.

Display Custom Images and Logos

The DSC 12G-HD A provides the convenience of uploading custom images, which can be displayed as a screen saver after a predefined duration of inactivity at the video input, or whenever the input is disconnected between presentations.

A custom graphic logo, such as a company logo, can be inserted into any presentation. Several key effects are available, and a logo can be positioned anywhere on‑screen.

Multiple Options for Control and Operation

The DSC 12G‑HD A features front panel controls for quick access to functions. Local and remote configuration and control are available via USB and Ethernet. The on-screen menus provide control over the unit's functions and settings, including quick access to key parameters such as input and output video formats and resolutions. Additionally, LED indicators on the front panel provide visual confirmation of input and output signal format and signal presence. The DSC 12G‑HD A is housed in a 1”, half rack width metal enclosure and can be easily integrated into a variety of environments.

Multi-rate SDI to HDMI video scaling — The DSC 12G-HD A provides high quality conversion of signal format and video resolution with audio embedding.

Accepts 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and HD-SDI signals at data rates from 1.48 Gbps to 11.88 Gbps — The DSC 12G-HD A accepts video formats from 720p up to 4K/60. It complies with SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 424M, SMPTE ST-2081, and SMPTE ST-2082 digital video standards.

Advanced Extron Vector™ 4K scaling engine — The Vector™ 4K scaling engine is specifically designed for critical-quality 4K imagery, with best-in-class image upscaling and downscaling.

Logo image keying and display — A logo graphic can be positioned and keyed over live video. Logo graphics in BMP, JPG, PNG, or TIFF format may be uploaded to the unit. Full screen images up to 4K resolution can also be displayed to eliminate loss of video between presentations.

Selectable output rates from 640x480 to 4K/60 — Available output rates include video resolutions from 640x480 to 4096x2160.

Supports custom output resolutions — User-defined output resolutions up to 600 MHz pixel clock can be supported by uploading custom EDID files or capturing EDID from a display or other destination device.

AFL™ - Accu-RATE Frame Lock — A patented technology exclusive to Extron that locks the output frame rate to the input to eliminate stuttering caused by frame rate conversion.

Audio embedding — Analog audio or up to four pairs of AES audio channels from the SDI input can be embedded onto the HDMI output.

Audio de-embedding — Two channel LPCM SDI audio can be extracted to the analog audio output, or multi-channel and bitstream formats can be passed to the HDMI output.

Aspect ratio control — The aspect ratio of the video output can be controlled by selecting a FILL mode, which provides a full screen output, or a FOLLOW mode, which preserves the original aspect ratio of the input signal.

Displays user-supplied images for screen saver, corporate branding, and logo insertion — Custom, user-loaded images can be displayed as a screen saver after a predefined duration of inactivity at the video input, or whenever the input is disconnected between presentations.

Image freeze control — A live image can be frozen using Ethernet or USB.

Auto Input Memory — When activated, the unit automatically stores size, position, and picture settings based on the incoming signal. When the same signal is detected again, these image settings are automatically recalled from memory.

Selectable output color space — The color space can be set to RGB or component video.

Motion-adaptive deinterlacing for 1080i signals — Advanced deinterlacing for interlaced 1080i signals delivers optimized image quality.

Automatic 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown detection — Advanced film mode processing techniques that help maximize image quality for 1080i sources that originated from film.

Input equalization and reclocking on buffered loop-out — Automatically equalizes incoming SDI signals and reshapes and restores signals on the buffered loop-out.

HDMI to DVI Interface Format Correction — Automatically enables or disables embedded audio and InfoFrames, and sets the correct color space for proper connection to HDMI and DVI displays.

On-screen menus — Intuitive on-screen menus allow for easy system setup using the front panel controls. Key parameters such as input and output video formats are conveniently grouped on the initial Quick Setup screen, while additional screens provide full control over the unit's other functions and settings.

User presets — Memory presets are available to store and recall optimized image settings.

Internal video test patterns and pink noise generator for calibration and setup — The scaler offers several video test patterns and audio pink noise to facilitate proper system setup and calibration of display devices.

Audio input gain and attenuation — Gain and attenuation can be adjusted for the analog stereo input.

Output volume control — Provides master volume control for the analog and HDMI embedded audio outputs.

Integrated audio delay — The audio output is automatically delayed to compensate for latency introduced by the video processing.

Selectable audio muting — The HDMI‑embedded and analog audio outputs can be independently muted.

Output Standby Mode — The unit can be set to automatically mute video and sync output to the display device when no active input signal is detected. This allows the projector or flat-panel display to automatically enter into standby mode to save energy and enhance lamp or panel life.

Power Save Mode — The DSC 12G-HD A can be placed in a low power standby state to conserve energy when not in use.

Meets Ecofficient Level 1 — Includes an energy-saving, externally controllable standby mode that puts the device in a low power state when not in use.

Front panel security lockout — Locks out all front panel functions; all functions, however, are available through Ethernet and USB.

Ethernet monitoring and control — Enables control and proactive monitoring over a LAN or WAN. An intuitive Web interface is included for system monitoring and firmware updates.

Built in Web pages — Enables the use of a standard browser for monitoring, troubleshooting, and firmware updates over an intuitive Web interface.
