Extron FOX USB Extender

Fiber Optic Extender for USB Peripherals

The Extron FOX USB Extender is a fiber optic transmitter and receiver set capable of sending USB signals extreme distances, enabling USB peripheral devices to be remotely located up to 30 km (18.75 miles) from the host computer. Integrating the FOX USB Extender into a professional AV system design that requires KVM – Keyboard/Video/Mouse support helps to reduce the need for additional IP network drops, equipment, software, or drivers. To ensure reliability and simplify installation, the transmitter include peripheral emulation to support USB port recognition during system boot-up and in switching environments and the receiver provides an active four-port hub that can power or charge attached devices. These and other features make the FOX USB Extender ideal for long distance extension of USB signals over fiber optic cabling.

Key Features

  • Extends USB peripherals up to 30 km (18.75 miles) via fiber optic cabling for long distance KVM extension
  • Supports USB 2.0, 1.1, and 1.0 standards with data transfer rates up to 480 Mbps, allowing high speed data transfer between the host and a mass storage device such as a USB flash drive
  • FOX USB Extender receiver features an integrated four-port hub with 5 Volts, 500 mA available on each port for simultaneous connection to multiple peripheral devices such as mass storage devices, keyboards, and other HIDs – Human Interface Devices
  • Peripheral emulation offers increased system reliability by emulating a continuous connection between the host and an HID-compliant keyboard and mouse
  • Real-time status LED indicators provides visual confirmation of port activity between an active host and each connected peripheral device
  • Compatible with FOX Series matrix switchers to enable transmission of KVM signals very long distances over an enterprise-wide fiber optic infrastructure
