Delay Operation

Delay can be set either by time or distance. Distance can be expressed in either feet or meters. The default setting is delay by time, at 100.0 ms. When Feet or Meters is selected, the Temperature field is enabled and can be set to either Celsius or Fahrenheit.

The temperature value calculates the change in the speed of sound as modified by air temperature and adjusts the time value with the appropriate delay time compensation. Enter a temperature value first, then set the distance in feet.

The following table describes the range and temperature available for each of the delay units:

Inserting a Delay

  1. Open the context menu using one of the following methods:

  2. Double-click the DLY (delay) block in the DSP Configurator workspace.

  3. Right-click the DLY block to open the context menu.

  4. Click the DLY block to select it (or use the arrow keys to navigate to the DLY block) and press the <Enter> key on your keyboard.

  1. From the drop-down menu, select Delay. Or, if you right-clicked the block, select Insert Delay. The DLY block color changes to a shade of blue-gray.

Setting Delay by Time

  1. Double-click the DLY block to be adjusted. The Delay dialog box opens.

  2. In the Units section of the Delay dialog, Time is selected by default. However, if needed, click the Time radio button to set units of time.

  3. Set the Delay slider using one of the following methods:

  4. Click and drag the slider handle to the desired value.

  5. Highlight the text in the Value field and enter the desired value.

  6. Click the slider handle to select it and press the <Up Arrow> and <Down Arrow> keys to adjust the slider in 1.0 ms increments.

  1. Click OK to save the adjustments.

Setting Delay by Distance

  1. Double-click the DLY block to be adjusted. The Delay dialog box opens.

  2. In the Units section, click Feet or Meters to set units of distance.

  3. In the Conditions section, set the temperature. This is optional. To do so:

  1. Click the Celsius radio button to set the temperature in Celsius, or click the Fahrenheit radio button to set the temperature in Fahrenheit.

  2. In the Temperature field, enter the desired temperature value.

You can leave the temperature set to
70 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a reasonable average for indoor use.
