Connection Guidelines

An Ethernet connection is recommended when configuring DSP. However, a USB or RS-232 serial connection can be used. When connecting via Ethernet directly to the device (not through a network), a crossover cable is necessary.

Both Administrator- and User-level passwords can be stored on ProDSP™ Ethernet-enabled devices (such as the MPX Plus 866 A or DMP 64). When an administrator password exists on the device, DSP Configurator requires the password before it launches.

IP address, primary and secondary RS-232 port baud rates, as well as administrator and user passwords can be set using the Tools > Device Settings option when connected in Live mode.

NOTE:  The Device Settings option on the Tools menu is not available in Emulate mode.

Setting these parameters with DSP Configurator as well as alternate methods are described in the subsections that follow.

Address Settings

The factory default IP address settings are:

  • IP address - 192.168.254.254

  • Subnet mask - 255.255.0.0

  • Gateway - 0.0.0.0

To change the IP address using DSP Configurator:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Device Settings. The Device Settings dialog opens.

  2. On the IP Settings tab, select the IP Address check box.

  3. In the IP Address field, enter the desired IP address.

  4. Click Apply to save the change and continue updating other settings. Alternately, click OK to save the new setting and exit the screen.

The IP address settings on the Matrix switcher and Matrix processor can be changed using one of the following alternate methods:

  • DataViewer - The DataViewer application is included on the Extron Software Products installation disc that came with the product. You can also download DataViewer from the Extron website at www.extron.com. Use either an Ethernet connection or a serial connection to change the IP address settings. See the device user guide for the SIS™ commands that you can use to change the IP address settings.

  • Matrix Switcher Control Program (Matrix switcher only) - The Matrix Switcher Control Program is included on the Software Products installation disk that came with the product. You can also download the application from the Extron website at www.extron.com. Use either an Ethernet connection or a serial connection to change the IP address settings. See the Matrix Switcher Control Program help file for the procedure.

  • Default web page - After establishing an Ethernet connection to the device:

    1. Launch your web browser and, in the Address field, enter the default IP address of the device (http://192.168.254.254).

    2. Click the Configuration tab.

    3. Click System Settings in the left pane of the screen. The System Settings page opens.

    4. In the IP Address field, enter the new address for the device.

    5. Click Submit.

Baud Rate

NOTE:  For the MPX Plus 866 A, the factory default baud rate is 9600 for each of the RS-232 ports. For the DMP 64 and MLS 608 D Series, the factory default baud rate is 38400 for each of the
RS-232 ports.

To change the baud rate using DSP Configurator:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Device Settings. The Device Settings dialog opens.

  2. Click the Serial Settings tab.

  3. Select the Primary RS-232 Port check box, Secondary RS-232 Port check box, or both.

  4. From the respective drop-down list, select the desired baud rate.

  5. Click Apply to save the change and continue updating other settings. Alternately, click OK to save the new setting and exit the screen.

The baud rate settings can also be changed using one of the following alternate methods:

  • Front Panel Controls (MPX Plus 866 A only) - See the MPX Plus 866 A User Guide for the procedure for setting the baud rate of the device.

  • DataViewer - Use either an Ethernet connection or a USB connection to perform this operation. See the device user guide for the SIS commands that you can use to change the baud rate for the respective device.

Passwords

ProDSP Ethernet-enabled devices accept both Administrator- and User-level passwords. When an administrator password exists on the device, DSP Configurator requires the administrator password before connecting to the device in Live mode.

To create or modify a password using DSP Configurator:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Device Settings. The Device Settings dialog opens.

  2. On the IP Settings tab, select the Admin Password check box, User Password check box, or both.

  3. In the field of each selected password type, enter the desired password.

  4. In the associated Retype Password field, retype the password.

  5. Click Apply to save the change and continue updating other settings. Alternatively, click OK to save the new setting and exit the screen.

Passwords on the Matrix switcher and Matrix processor can be changed using one of the following alternate methods:

  • DataViewer - Use either an Ethernet connection or a USB connection to perform this operation. See the device user guide for the SIS commands that you can use to set the administrator and user passwords.

  • Matrix Switcher Control Program (Matrix switcher only) - Use either an Ethernet connection or a serial connection to perform this operation. See the Matrix Switcher Control Program help file for the procedure.
