Connection Guidelines

An Ethernet connection is recommended when configuring DSP. Alternately, a USB or RS-232 serial connection may be used. When connecting via Ethernet directly to the device, i.e., not through a network, a crossover cable is necessary.   

Both Administrator and User level passwords may be stored on the device. When an administrator password exists in the device, the DSP Configurator software will require that password before it will launch.

IP address, primary and secondary RS-232 port baud rates, and Administrator and User level passwords can be set under Tools | Device Settings while connected in Live mode (the option is unavailable in Emulate mode). Setting these parameters using the DSP Configurator as well as alternate methods are described in the sections that follow.

Address Settings

The following are the factory default IP address settings.

  • IP Address: 192.168.254.254

  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

  • Gateway: 0.0.0.0

To change the IP Address using the DSP Configurator:

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Device Settings.

  2. In the IP Settings tab, click the IP Address checkbox.

  3. Enter the desired IP address.

  4. Click Apply if you wish to change other settings, or click OK to accept the new setting and exit.

The address settings on the DMP 64 may be changed using one of the following alternate methods:

  • DataViewer - the DataViewer program is included on the Software Products installation CD that came with the product. The SIS commands for changing address settings can be found in the DMP 64 User’s Manual. Use either an Ethernet or a serial connection to perform this operation.

  • DMP 64 Web Page - after making the proper Ethernet cable connection to the device, launch your browser and enter the default IP address (http://192.168.254.254). Go to the Configuration tab, System Settings. Enter the new address, then click Submit.

Baud Rate

The DMP 64 factory default baud rate is 38400 for each of the RS-232 ports.

To change the baud rate using the DSP Configurator:

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Device Settings.

  2. In the Serial Settings tab, click the checkbox for either or both the Primary RS-232 Port or the Secondary RS-232 Port.

  3. Select the desired baud rate from the drop-down list.

  4. Click Apply if you wish to change other settings, or click OK to accept the new setting and exit.

The baud rate settings on the DMP 64 may be changed using the following alternate method:

  • DataViewer - included on the Software Products installation CD that came with the product. The SIS commands for changing baud rate can be found in the DMP 64 User’s Manual. Use either an Ethernet or a serial connection to perform this operation.

Passwords

The DMP 64 accepts both Administrator and User level passwords. When an Administrator password exists on the device, the DSP Configurator program will require that Administrator password before connecting to the device in Live mode.

To enter or change a password using the DSP Configurator:

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Device Settings.

  2. In the IP Settings tab, click the checkbox for either or both the Admin Password or the User Password.

  3. Type the desired password for the selected password type, then retype the password in the Retype Password field(s).

  4. Click Apply if you wish to change other settings, or click OK to accept the new setting and exit.

Passwords on the DMP 64 may be entered or changed using the following alternate method:

  • DataViewer - included on the Software Products installation CD that came with the product. The SIS commands for setting administrator and user passwords can be found in the DMP 64 User’s Manual. Use either an Ethernet or a serial connection to perform this operation.
