The Extron XTRA™ Series of Class D amplifiers are the commercial AV industry’s first complete family of ENERGY STAR^®qualified amplifiers. While conventional Class AB amplifiers have commonly been used in commercial installations, they are inefficient and known to be one of the major sources of power consumption in AV systems. The XTRA Series are highly efficient Class D power amplifiers that consume much less power than Class AB amplifiers. They are designed to save clients and their facilities considerable ownership costs in terms of infrastructure and system operation. This paper will highlight the energy efficiency, low heat dissipation, and space efficiency of these amplifiers, as well as specific technologies designed into the XTRA Series for high performance audio reproduction.
