THE ISM CONFIGURATOR

The ISM 824 Configurator is an online configuration utility that allows you to virtually configure different ISM 824 Integration Scaling MultiSwitchers with the click of a mouse. The dynamic, graphical user interface makes it easy to select any of the available ISM 824 scaler or signal processor boards and place them as needed in the four available output expansion slots. Since its debut two years ago, the ISM 824 MultiSwitcher has become a favorite among integrators looking for a flexible and cost-effective matrix switcher with on-board signal processing.

This award-winning MultiSwitcher has found its place in a number of environments, including houses of worship, city council chambers, and other demanding applications where multiple, high resolution sources must be scaled and routed to several destinations simultaneously. Now, as a direct response to the needs of integrators and system designers, we are pleased to add our first twisted pair output board to the ISM 824 platform – the ISM MTP UT 4DA.

This feature-rich output board adds MTP – Twisted Pair Series transmission capability to the ISM 824, enabling it to transmit video, audio, and control signals up to 600 feet (185 meters) on a single CAT 5/5e/6 or Extron skew-free cable. Also, as a universal transmitter, it supports all input signal types in mixed-signal routing applications. The diagram on page 2 illustrates this feature well. The integrated 4-output distribution amplifier not only allows long-distance video, mono audio, and control signal transmission, but it also eliminates the cost of an additional DA in applications where multiple remote displays must receive the same input signal simultaneously.

Twisted Pair Output

The benefits of sending A/V signals over twisted pair are clear: The small size, low cost, speed of termination, and low weight of CAT 5-type cable mean streamlined installations as well as cost savings in terms of labor and materials. In the case of the ISM MTP UT 4DA, twisted pair technology allows long-distance signal transmission plus RS-232 insertion. This popular feature from our MTPX Plus twisted pair matrix switcher allows a control system located near the ISM 824 to connect to and control remote displays over the same UTP output cable that carries the A/V signal. In many cases, RS-232 insertion eliminates the need for a separate control system infrastructure, and also helps overcome the 100-foot (30 m) distance limitation for RS-232 signals.

Part of the MTP Family

The ISM MTP output board is fully-compatible with Extron MTP Series twisted pair receivers, including the MTP U Series universal receivers. MTP family compatibility makes integration with existing Extron twisted pair products a breeze, and eliminates the cost of additional equipment.

Audio Output Options

The ISM MTP output board provides two, convenient audio output options – summed mono audio over UTP, and balanced or unbalanced stereo audio via the local audio output. Having both options provides an additional level of flexibility for the integrator, as he's given the option of sending video and summed mono audio to a remote display, and/or taking stereo audio off the output board and making it available to a local audio system.

Other Available Output Boards

With the inclusion of this new ISM MTP UT 4DA output board, there are now eight output expansion boards available for the ISM 824, each with the same advanced video processing technologies employed in Extron scalers, signal processors, and scan converters. Other available output boards include:

The Universal RGB & Video Scaler Output Board that features high performance RGB and video scaling, with upconversion and downconversion of high resolution RGB signals, as well as standard definition video signals. The Universal RGB & Video Scaler Board is available in three versions:

• Analog - outputs RGBHV or component video in 59 selectable rates at up to UXGA (1600x1200) resolution, as well as HDTV 1080p.
• DVI - outputs 53 selectable rates up to 1600x1200 and HDTV 1080p.
• HD-SDI - outputs one of five standard serial digital rates, including 720p 50/60, 1080i 50/60, and 1080p/24.

The Video Scaler Output Board is ideal for applications requiring video-only scaling with RGB pass-through. It scales standard definition composite video and S-video signals to a common, high resolution output rate.

The Scan Converter Output Board delivers an optimized, scan-converted video output for compatibility with low resolution video monitors as well as VCRs, DVD recorders, or videoconferencing.

Finally, Single and Dual Output Wideband Boards are available for additional, configurable wideband outputs.
